Accepting new patients with Dr. Peter Shorter M.D.
Dr. Peter Shorter is an internal medicine physician specializing in Hypertension and Kidney Disease. He is passionate about working in partnership with his patients, empowering them to navigate their personalized health journey with confidence.
Dr. Pete grew up in coastal Charleston, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He and his wife, a South County native, returned to New England, where Dr. Shorter continued his training with Brown Medicine, working at Rhode Island Hospital, Miriam Hospital, and the Providence VA Medical Center.
Dr. Shorter initially joined South County Hospital as a nephrologist in 2014 and later transitioned to hospitalist medicine with Dr. Abbruzzese. In 2022, Dr. Shorter received the honor of being named “South County Hospital Physician of the Year”. Dr. Pete looks forward to providing patient-centered, personalized care alongside Dr. Sal.
Dr. Abbruzzese is an internal medicine physician. As a native Rhode Islander, Dr. Abbruzzese looks forward to forming memorable and long lasting relationships with his patients. He began the concierge practice June of 2024, and looks forward to continuing to provide exceptional care to his patients.
Dr. Sal earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at the St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. He spent ten years of his career in Hawaii at the Kauai Medical Clinic and Castle Medical Center.
He was a South County Hospital hospitalist from 2014-2023. While at South County, he spent two of those years as Vice President and two as President of the Medical Staff. He has also spent time on Block Island serving patients at the Block Island Medical Center.
Nicole, a South County native, spends her days at the office overseeing general administrative functions and activities. She creates and maintains a pleasant office environment, ensuring high levels of organizational effectiveness, record keeping and most importantly top-notch communication with the physicians and patients. She dedicates herself to responding to patient calls promptly and efficiently. Nicole also is a trained phlebotomist working for South County Hospital for over 10 years, that along with heading the office at South County Primary Care, her experience and level of professionalism is unmatched. She looks forward to greeting you at your next appointment.
